What is hele mua?

Hele Mua means ‘to move forward’ in Hawaiian. We are a nonprofit driving Hawaii’s sustainability movement forward by hosting interactive beach cleanups and events. Our events bridge tourism and local communities, while teaching cultural education and environmental stewardship.

What do we do?

beach cleanups

  • We remove microplastics from the sand, to protect Hawaii’s ecosystems while educating volunteers about the causes of microplastic pollution.

Cultural Education

  • Play Ulu Maika, learn about Hawaiian culture, history, and the significance of caring for our ʻaina.

Build community

  • Create meaningful opportunities for locals and tourists to volunteer, contribute to the community, and be inspired to live more sustainably.

What do we want?

you! volunteer with us.
