Our Team

jared matsuki

Executive Director | Founder | President of the Board

With seven years of experience in the hotel industry, Jared has worked across various departments, gaining expertise in both front and back-of-house operations. His passion for environmental conservation led him to merge his hospitality background with sustainability efforts, envisioning a tourism industry that actively gives back to Hawaii’s natural environment. What began as small beach cleanups with handmade tools in his garage has grown into Hele Mua—a nonprofit dedicated to engaging hotels, tourists, and the local community in meaningful environmental action.

Treasurer for the Board

Mei Kang

Mei is passionate about wildlife conservation and believes that every cleanup makes a difference. She is deeply motivated by the impact pollution has on marine life, recognizing that human actions affect the entire ocean ecosystem. If she can save even one animal from the dangers of microplastics and pollution, she considers every effort worthwhile.

Outside of Hele Mua, Mei enjoys surfing, bouldering, and hiking. She also has a background in marine education as a former certified whale watch narrator—so feel free to ask her for a whale fact!

Savanna Diorec

Social Media Manager | Board Member

Savanna is passionate about sustainability and using social media to inspire change. Growing up in Hawaii, she developed a deep appreciation for the ocean, which fuels her commitment to protecting the environment. As Hele Mua’s social media manager, she plays a key role in sharing the organization’s mission, engaging with the community, and raising awareness about sustainability. Through her work, she hopes to connect with others who share a passion for conservation and encourage meaningful action.

Kanishka Lokusooriya

Operations Manager

Witnessing the early stages of this amazing organization has been inspiring—it’s so raw and filled with the passion of everyone involved. I’m driven by a desire to encourage others to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle, which is essential for the health of our planet and the well-being of future generations. When I was at the tidepools with my son, I had a moment that truly opened my eyes. A plastic bottle washed up right next to him, and it struck me how urgent it is to make a change. I want to set an example for my son so he can grow up knowing the importance of sustainable practices and continue to care for our beautiful planet. It all starts with us! We walk, talk, and run this planet—together, we can make a difference!
