World Cleanup Day at Hunananiho Beach Park
Sept. 21, 2024
On September 21st, Hele Mua hosted a successful beach cleanup at Hunananiho Beach Park in celebration of World Cleanup Day. The event brought together a passionate group of 16 volunteers, including participants from Ecolab, Girl Scouts Hawaii, and the local community, who were enthusiastic and fully engaged throughout the day. Their positive attitudes and dedication to making a difference set the tone for a rewarding and impactful experience.
Armed with tools like Huli Sifters and Buoyancy Separation Devices, volunteers tackled debris along the shoreline, removing 96 pounds of trash and 141 grams of microplastic. Beyond the physical cleanup, the event provided an opportunity to share the significance of malama aina (caring for the land) and educate participants about the challenges Hawaii’s beaches face from microplastic pollution.
This cleanup was a perfect example of the power of collaboration, with volunteers working together to protect Hawaii’s fragile ecosystem and foster a deeper connection between the land and its people. Hele Mua is grateful to all the participants who joined us in taking action for a cleaner, more sustainable future. Mahalo for making World Cleanup Day a success!
